The Cancer Misfit: A guide to navigating life after treatment

By Saskia Lightstar

It is not difficult to find helpful advice about dealing with a cancer diagnosis and the subsequent treatment. It is less easy to get support when treatment is over and one is supposed to just get back to normal, whatever that means.

In fact, after the treatment stops it can be difficult to know how to move on, and many survivors feel stuck in limbo between who they used to be before the diagnosis and who they are today. This is how Saskia felt when she was told the treatment was over: she felt like a Cancer Misfit, recovered physically, but mentally and emotionally still healing. In this book, she shares the tools that enabled her to become the happiest version of herself she has ever known.

“Saskia’s book is a one-stop-shop of practical and spiritual goodness to help get you on track with accepting the new you and living life enlightened”. Lauren Mahon, founder of Girl vs Cancer and co-host of You Me & The Big C podcast.

The following three reviews are taken from the Goodreads website.

“This is an incredible book and is an absolute must read for anyone who has been affected by cancer. Such a refreshing read with loads of practical tips on how to collect the pieces of yourself and put yourself back together when the sympathy flowers and cards stop coming and your friends and family go back to their normal routines, yet you’re left wondering who the hell you are! Saskia’s book helped me immeasurably. Don’t wait, just read it… you won’t regret it!”

“The perfect book for when you step off the rollercoaster/juggernaut that is cancer treatment. I’m two chapters in and already finding it changing my attitude to recovery.”

Thank goodness for this book. I’m on page 28 & haven’t stopped crying (in a good way). I feel like Saskia’s in my head, telling my story of how it feels when the treatment stops & you’re expected to get on with life. Saskia’s completely normalised my feelings. I’ve felt like I’ve been going mad. I’m not. I’m grieving.”
