The Front Steps Project by Emma van Dort

This event is now finished. We would like to give a big THANK YOU to Emma van Dort. Also, we would like to thank everyone who donated to this fundraiser. We are happy to report this event raised a total of CHF 1,215.

If you would like to still donate to Cancer Support Switzerland please click HERE to place a donation.

Strengthening community begins with the first step. For us it starts on the Front Step.

My goal:

To highlight & bring a smile to the faces of our community during a time when we might not see them in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, on the train or at the gym. At the same time, raising awareness for those affected by cancer during these unprecedented times.

About Emma

Emma van Dort is a British photographer based in Gland, who has been inspired to take part in The Front Steps Project, taking photos in exchange for a  fundraising donation.

Why am I doing it?

I heard about this project via social media and absolutely LOVE the idea of bringing communities together, by capturing real life, right on their doorsteps during this pandemic.

The idea started in the very 1st lockdown and was a huge success across the globe.

As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse, it did, and at the end of 2020, my dear sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.

This encouraged my decision to start my own front steps project, in order to raise funds for a local cancer charity, as well as raising awareness for breast cancer in particular, with the goal of giving hope and joy to those who have been affected by cancer, whether personally or with loved ones, near and far, during these uncertain, isolating times.

My charity of choice is Cancer Support Switzerland, who offer support services to cancer patients and their loved ones, free of charge, in the Lake Geneva region.

‘Support for those affected by cancer is now even more important than ever.’

HOW IT WILL WORK…

Locations will be: Geneva, Nyon, Gland, Rolle and surrounding local villages.

The aim is to bring people together by taking five-minute “Front Steps Portraits” of local residents.

I will arrange a convenient date to snap super fast images of families on their front steps. After your quick session, I will email you the digital file of your portrait. In exchange, we ask you to make a good faith donation to Cancer Support Switzerland.

You will know when I am coming!

You can step outside, where I will be standing near your front entrance at a distance, at least 2 meters away. I will take a couple of quick shots and leave. I physically interact with no one, and touch nothing, during these sessions.

I *do* smile and laugh with you, however, and don’t we all need a little bit of that right now?!

We will be posting these images on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #thefrontstepsproject.

This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session. Do you want to stand outside in your pj’s and slippers? Sounds good to us. Kids in mismatched clothes, but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic! Wearing your ski gear because you’re headed off to the pistes? Love it!

BE YOU..
