Our second ever Steps for Cancer Support Challenge raises over 85,000 Swiss Francs to support Cancer Support Switzerland’s vision that no one faces cancer alone.
Close to 900 people, taking part in teams or as individuals, rose to the challenge of walking twice around the world in 20 days and doing extra laps around Mars and the Moon as well. Virtual weekend challenges to hike the Jura, scale the Swiss Alps and climb Mount Everest kept participants motivated to achieve an incredible total of 201,955,950 million steps.
In addition to the 113 individual walkers, the event attracted participation from 57 open teams and 21 corporate teams from Hôpital de La Tour, LGT Bank, Hirslanden Clinique des Grangettes, Beckman Coulter Foundation, Firmenich and Dragonboatevents.ch. Since there were no geographical limitations, we had people from more than 10 countries joining the walk.
The funds raised during Steps for Cancer Support play a critical role in maintaining and expanding our support services to those who need it most; We already have two new activities launching this month.
In just a few days a 4-week art therapy programme aimed at anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer will begin. These sessions offer an approach to ongoing bereavement care through creative art making to help navigate the difficult landscape of grief and the experience of loss.
At the end of the month we’ll open a new Prostate Support Group for men, offering a confidential space for men to get together, share experiences, express concerns and ask questions about prostate cancer. There is still time to sign up here.
We will return with the third Steps for Cancer Support challenge next spring but there is still time to make a donation here.
